10 Ways to Burn Calories without Even Trying!

Whatís the best way to burn calories and lose that unwanted weight?  Get up and get moving.  While scheduled and planned fitness routines are an important part of your day, you can step up your weight loss efforts by adding just a few more moves each day.  These moves arenít really considered exercise by any means.  These are things that we do (or can be doing) on a regular basis without any special equipment or expensive workout clothes and gym memberships.  These are things that you can do right around your own home.  These calorie burners are just plain, regular every day activities.

And keep this in mind, if you burn an extra 300 calories each day, you will have lost one pound in 12 dayís time!  That is a weight loss of about 30 pounds in a yearís time.  Pretty impressive when all you have been doing is a few chores around the house.  The activities listed, and similar ones, increase your heart rate which in turn, increases your metabolism.  Once your metabolism is running at a higher rate, your body begins to burn more calories.  So, letís get up, get moving, and get some things done around the house!

Here is the breakdown on some common activities that you can do.  These are based on 30 minutes of activity for a 150 pound person.

Raking the leaves = 147 calories

Gardening or weeding = 153 calories

Moving (packing and unpacking) = 191 calories

Vacuuming = 119 calories

Cleaning the house = 102 calories

Playing with the kids (moderate activity level) = 136 calories

Push mowing the lawn = 205 calories

Leisurely walking = 103 calories

Sitting and watching TV = 40 calories

Biking to work (on a flat surface) = 220 calories

You can also burn more calories without a whole lot of effort just by making a few changes in your daily routine.  Instead of using e-mail or interoffice phones, try walking to your co-workers desk with questions.  As always, take the stairs instead of the elevator.  Broom sweep your kitchen floor every evening.  Walk to your mailbox instead of picking it up from your car.  These little actions can have a great impact on the number of calories you burn throughout your day.  As an added incentive, think of what youíre getting done while you are burning those calories Ė itís like two bonuses in one!

Another quick and easy way to add calorie burning into your regular routine is to purchase a pedometer to track the number of steps you take daily.  Get an average count over a few day period, and then challenge yourself to increasing it daily.  A rule of thumb is 10,000 steps is equivalent to walking one mile.  By beginning your day with a few stretches and light exercises you are jumpstarting your metabolism.  When you do this early in the day, it stays at a higher rate all day long which adds to your attempt to burn more calories without interrupting your daily routine.
